Huawei Pura 80 Ultra & Pro: Mastered Extravagance
1. A design that dazzles—without the bulk
At first sight the Pura 80 line shouts “Dazzling Forward Symbol”: a central camera disc like a luxury watch face, mirror-grade finishes that catch the light, and 2.5 D curved edges for a secure grip.
Pura 80 Ultra: gold bezel around the lens, Crystal Armor Kunlun 2 glass claimed 25× more drop-resistant.
Pura 80 Pro: clean look in Glazed Red or White, same second-gen Kunlun glass minus the extra armour.
Both measure 163 × 76.1 × 8.3 mm, carry IP68/IP69 ratings, and still slide into a pocket despite housing 1-inch camera sensors.
2. Photography: the zoom is the real split
Both phones share a 50 MP 1-inch main sensor with variable f/1.6-4.0 aperture, a 40 MP ultra-wide and Huawei’s XMAGE imaging engine.
Ultra: world-first dual-switch 50 MP telephoto module—3.7× (83 mm) and 9.4× (212 mm) in one barrel, both OIS-stabilised.
Pro: single 48 MP 4× telephoto with macro mode, great in low light but less versatile.
In plain terms the Ultra lets you jump from an 85 mm portrait to a close-up of an on-stage artist without losing detail or colour; its DXOMARK Camera score of 175 backs the claim.
3. LTPO OLED: 3 000 nits, 1-120 Hz, 1 440 Hz PWM
Same 6.8-inch 2 848 × 1 276 px panel, same 300 Hz touch sampling and 3 000-nit HDR peak. The only extra on the Ultra is a nano-etched anti-reflective layer—handy in bright sun.
4. Kirin 9020: home-grown power
Built on a 7 nm node, octa-core CPU up to 2.5 GHz and Maleoon 920 GPU.
Ultra: 16 GB LPDDR5X + 512 GB UFS 4.0
Pro: 12 GB + 256/512 GB UFS 4.0
AnTuTu V10 scores: 1 043 k (Ultra) vs 1 086 k (Pro)—a wash in daily use.
5. Battery & charging: 100 W wired, 80 W wireless
Both pack 5 170 mAh batteries with 100 W SuperCharge (0-100 % in 28 min) and 80 W wireless (50 min); 20 W reverse charge for earbuds or a watch.
6. Toughness: Kunlun 2 vs Crystal Armor
Pro: standard Kunlun 2, 20× tougher than regular glass.
Ultra: Crystal Armor Kunlun 2, 25× drop + 16× scratch resistance—made for butter-fingers and desert shoots.
7. Price & availability
Pura 80 Pro: €899 (12/256 GB) – €999 (12/512 GB)
Pura 80 Ultra: €1 299 (16/512 GB)
On sale now in Europe and Asia through Huawei.com and certified resellers.
8. Which one should you buy?
Creators / travellers: pick the Ultra for the only smartphone-grade 9.4× optical zoom without a huge bump.
Night-photo fans / tighter budget: the Pro is still a flagship with a 1-inch sensor and a smaller price tag.
Conclusion
With the Pura 80 series Huawei proves “extravagance” doesn’t have to mean “enormous”: 1-inch sensors, dual-switch zoom, 100 W charging and near-military protection live inside an 8.3 mm chassis. Whether you choose the Ultra for its telephoto or the Pro for value, you’re holding the art of excess—mastered.
